New urgent treatment centre opens its doors to patients
The centre, at Bretton Gate, is open 8am to 8pm seven days a week and offers treatment and advice for urgent – but not life threatening or critical – illnesses and injuries.
It brings the hospital's urgent and emergency care together on one site. The GP Out of Hours provided by Herts Urgent Care is also based alongside the treatment centre.
Healthwatch Director Nik Patten has been on the steering committee planning the relocation of the centre from Thorpe Road and was at the official opening yesterday. Our picture shows North West Anglia FT CEO Caroline Walker cutting the ribbon.
"It's a great looking building and its new home at the hospital means it connects well with the existing Emergency Department – so this will make sure patients get the right care at the right place," said Nik.
He also urged anyone needing treatment to help NHS staff by using the 111 service. This directs you to the most appropriate service for your needs – from a local pharmacy through to A & E.
And with the emergency department so busy, it frees up hospital staff to see the sickest patients and ensure people needing less urgent care don't have long waits to be seen.
