Tribute to our retiring Chair Val
She has stepped down after completing two three-year-terms as head of our Board of Directors.
Our CEO Sandie Smith paid tribute to her energy, enthusiasm and leadership and said her legacy would continue.
You have been an inspiration and it’s been fabulous to work with you in so many ways. Thank you for everything you have done to amplify people’s voices in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. You’ve absolutely made a real difference.
Val said that while she continues in health-related roles. she is also returning to her sporting roots as an open water swimming coach and lifeguard - and is taking great memories with her.
“From my first induction sessions with the Healthwatch team, I felt these are precious people doing wonderful things and speaking with real passion. So while I have led from the front as Chair, I’ve been led by you all too.”
She said the learning at Healthwatch had been limitless.
“The voices we’ve heard – from the wheelchair forum, the experiences of deaf and blind people at our Accessible Information Standard event through to the Community Values Panel and then hearing people’s experiences through the pandemic – it’s been compelling.
“Healthwatch has occupied a big part of my heart and special memories of the last six years.”
