More than 900 waiting for NHS continuing health care
Continuing healthcare is care arranged and funded by the NHS for people who have been assessed as needing care to manage a health problem.
This care is for adults who need ongoing care and support because of complicated, intense or unpredictable health care needs. You might also hear this called a 'primary health need'.
Problems with the service
We have regularly raised concerns with the CCG about people’s poor experiences of the Continuing Health Care services.
People have told us they find the continuing health care system difficult to understand as it is so complex.
They have faced long waits for assessment and poor communications. This includes difficulty getting through on the telephone. And letters than are hard to understand.
What the CCG are doing
The CCG have developed a plan to clear the back log of people waiting to be assessed. They aim to complete this by October 2018.
And they say all new assessments are now being done be done within national guidance of 28 days for 80% of cases.
